Since 1970, Tuerk House has served as a trailblazer for drug and alcohol treatment in Baltimore, Maryland. Before we opened our doors, those struggling with addiction were left to detox in state hospitals or jail cells. Fortunately, a handful of visionaries—including Dr. Isadore Tuerk, who was the commissioner of the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at the time—knew there was a more collaborative, kindhearted way to help people find lifelong healing and recovery.
Today, we serve nearly 300 patients daily through an integrated model of care that encompasses all aspects of recovery, and we continue to support their journeys to total wellness through our comprehensive community health services.

Our skilled team provides around-the-clock medical management and monitoring services to expertly and compassionately guide a patient through the complex process of withdrawal from drugs and/or alcohol. These services are offered 24/7 on site at the Tuerk House Main Campus.
Tuerk House offers multiple levels of residential treatment for addiction, giving our patients a stepping-stone approach to success in their commitment to life-long recovery. With every stride, patients learn how to apply recovery, self-care skills, and build a social network that is supportive of their sobriety.
The intensive outpatient services at Tuerk House are designed to transition individuals who are struggling with addiction to a life of successful, sober self-sufficiency. It’s the ideal solution for patients who need continued, structured support while they safely go back to work, school, and/or family life.
Substance use disorder care can also include outpatient medicated-assisted treatment that combines behavioral therapy with clinically managed medications to help patients begin—and sustain—their recovery. These types of medications restore balance to the areas of the brain that are affected by addiction. This relieves a patient’s withdrawal symptoms and psychological cravings, allowing the brain to heal while they work toward recovery.
